Ezra freaks out at the puppy because he thinks that it is radioactive. Ezra finally leaves the back bedroom. Eventually when he gets strong enough he ventures up to Nyle's room. Nyle shows him around her room. Ezra now plays with the puppy but it still does not have a name.
Ezra can now go to school. Muncie is very mad at Nyle for not telling her about Ezra. But one day while Nyle and Ezra are on their way home from the bus stop Ripley comes up. Him and Nyle get into a fight because radiation killed his dog and Ripley knew Ezra was a kid from the contamination zone. First he went for Ezra and Nyle couldn't stop him. Then he went for Nyle. Nyle tried to stop Ripley but couldn't, thankfully Muncie came up and hit him on the head knocking him out. They took Ezra to the house.
