Part 3

Ezra freaks out at the puppy because he thinks that it is radioactive. Ezra finally leaves the back bedroom. Eventually when he gets strong enough he ventures up to Nyle's room. Nyle shows him around her room. Ezra now plays with the puppy but it still does not have a name.

Ezra can now go to school. Muncie is very mad at Nyle for not telling her about Ezra. But one day while Nyle and Ezra are on their way home from the bus stop Ripley comes up. Him and Nyle get into a fight because radiation killed his dog and Ripley knew Ezra was a kid from the contamination zone. First he went for Ezra and Nyle couldn't stop him. Then he went for Nyle. Nyle tried to stop Ripley but couldn't, thankfully Muncie came up and hit him on the head knocking him out. They took Ezra to the house.

Part 2

Now they are allowed to remove there masks. All except Muncie. Muncie the girl with the over protective parents, the friend who is hiding something, and is made fun of by Ripley. Ripley is a boy who lives close to Nyle. His dog kills Nyle and Gran's sheep. Nyle absolutely hates Ripley.

Ezra is starting to strengthen, and Nyle is spending more time with him and less with Muncie. Muncie stats to fell like Nyle is hiding something from her but Nyle denies it. Ezra now watches Nyle as she does her chores. She teaches him about the sheep. Now Ezra is ready for school but instead of going Nyle bring his work home. They do homework together, even though they are in different grades. Nyle is in 8th grade and Ezra is in 10th grade. Nyle gets Ezra a puppy. Ezra is now walking around using Nyle's grandfathers canes, but he is afraid to leave the room.

Part 1

In the beginning of the book Ezra Trent and his mother move into a house occupied by Nyle and Gran, Nyle's grandmother. Ezra and his mother were living in the contamination zone after a reactor blew up. Ezra has radiation poisoning. Ezra's father, Mrs. Trent's husband, died from radiation poisoning. He worked in the factory and helped when the reactor blew. Ezra always said that it would be his fathers fault if anything ever happened at the power plant. He said this until his father got sick and died. Nyle was against letting the Trents into the house but Gran gave he no choice. The Trents were moved into the back bedroom. To Nyle this was the dieing room. Her mother and grandfather died in the back bedroom and she could not face caring for another person who could possibly die in the back bedroom. But she did. She grew fond of Ezra. She would read th him and watch over him when his mother would leave the room. Nyle's friend Muncie had parents who feared radiation terribly. So Nyle was afraid of telling Muncie about Ezra and Mrs. Trent.
